Using the Toolbar

The toolbar allows you to interact with the map by clicking on the map with a tool. For example, if you click in the toolbar on the Zoom In tool, then click on the map, the map will zoom in around where you click.

To use a tool

Note: Some tools perform an action immediately. This includes the Full-extent tool.

Tools

Tools in your website depend on the purpose and use of the application. Some or all of these may be available:

Name Icon Description
Zoom in Zoom in tool Click and drag a rectangle: Click and hold the left mouse button down on the map at one corner of the rectangle to zoom in to. Drag the mouse to the other corner of the rectangle, and release the mouse button. The map will zoom in to the area of the rectangle.
Zoom out Zoom out tool Click and drag a rectangle: the map will zoom out so that the current map area will fit into the rectangle drawn. The smaller the rectangle you draw, the more the map will zoom out.
Pan (recenter) Pan tool Click and drag the map: Click and hold the left mouse button on the map, and drag the map. The map will be recentered, with the location dragged at the location you dropped it.
Full extent Full map extent Full extent: Immediately zooms the map out to the area of all features and layers. The active tool does not change.
Previous extent Previous map extent Previous extent: Immediately zooms the map back to the previous map extent. The active tool does not change.
Parcel identify Previous map extent Click to identify parcel: Click with the left mouse button on the map. Results are added to the Search Results section of the Results tab.
Select parcels by polygon Previous map extent Click and drag a rectangle: Click the left mouse button at the first point in the polygon. Click the second point of the polygon. Continue adding points (vertices) of the polygon. Double-click to complete the polygon. The map will select any parcels in the area of the rectangle. Results are added to the Search Results section of the Results tab.
Point in area Identify tool Click to report on location: Click with the left mouse button on the map. A small icon is added to the map identify icon and information about the Location is added to the Details Report section of the Results tab.
Clear selections Clear Selections Clear selections: Immediately clears the selection set. The active tool does not change.
MPC Case identify MPC Cases identify MPC Case identify: Activate the “MPC Case Identify Tool" on the toolbar. Note: this tool is only available when viewing the 'MPC Cases' theme. If a red slash is drawn on this tool, return to the MPC Cases theme to re-enable it.
Measure Measure tool Measure: Immediately opens the Measure dialog. See Measure distance and area for usage.
Share URL Create Shared URL: Immediately opens a modified web browser window showing the URL to the current map (map extent and contents). Click the Copy to Clipboard button to copy the link to the system clipboard. Use your email software's paste function to paste the link in to a message. The active tool does not change.
Print Print: Immediately opens the PrintTask section of the Tasks tab. The active tool does not change.
Legend Legend: Creates a legend under the Contents tab Contents tab. The active tool does not change.
