KGIS, and its representative City and County mapping departments, is in the midst of a major software upgrade project, wherein we will be transitioning to new GIS software: ArcGIS from ESRI. And today, October 10th, 2007, marks a major milestone of this transistion, with the MPC Addressing Department going "live" on the new software for its address and street name assignment / map management.

This represents a major change for not only MPC, but for all of KGIS user departments, who will also be switching to the new software over the next six months. As part of this project, the KGIS website (and KnoxNetWhere) will also be re-configured with new features and access to "live" data.

The implementation schedule calls for the Subdivision and Plat mapping workflows, which are shared by MPC, City Engineering and the Property Assessor,  to "go live" on the new system in November.

The Property Assessor is set to transition it's parcel and ownership maintenance in December.

Other City and MPC processes (such as Stormwater and Sign Inventory) are set for early 2008. And the updated / re-vamped KGIS websites are set for Feb. / March 2008.

The three-year GIS upgrade project, called "M2E", is being managed by CH2M Hill, Inc., and will replace KGIS's 13-year old Bentley / Intergraph software with ESRI's latest generation ArcGIS SDE and ArcGIS Server. Plans call for KUB's mapping processes, which are still being managed within the Intergraph FRAMME software, to also be upgraded to new GIS software over the next several years.
