The National Geodetic Survey is planning to create a new State Plane Coordinate System of 2022 (SPCS2022)that will replace the NAD 83 spatial reference system that is currently being used by KGIS, and the mapping \ surveying community throughout Knoxville and all of Tennessee. A free webinar about the NGS's activities is planned for Dec. 12, 2019. CLICK HERE for more information.
In line with the NGS's plans, the State of Tennessee recently passed a bill (SB997) that designates the former 1927 and 1983 coordinates systems as being referred to as "Tennessee Coordinate" systems, and the newly adopted (as of Dec. 21, 2022 the sole system recognized in the State) system is to be referred to as the "Tennessee State Plane Coordinate System".
This new coordinate system will require that KGIS adjust its various mapping templates and datasets to the new datum. (KGIS performed a similar-such adjustment back in 2008 timeframe when it adjusted its work flows from NAD 83 to the NAD 83 HARN datum.)
